Jane Cutler was born September 24, 1936, in the Bronx, NY, and was raised in rural Missouri. She earned a master's degree in creative writing, then spent over ten years raising her three children before publishing her first juvenile novel, Family Dinner, in 1991. She followed that with a long series of novels and picture books for children, which have earned her many awards and honors.
